About Documents by Design
Thoughtful design, real-world accessibility
I’m Catherine, the designer behind Documents by Design. I design, create, and remediate accessible documents so more people can read, understand, and use the information you share.
My work sits at the intersection of strong visual communication and accessibility. I believe documents should look professional, reflect your brand, and work properly with assistive technology — without unnecessary complexity or compromise.
Design experience you can trust
I’m a graphic designer with over 25 years’ experience, gained working with established design agencies and locally owned print studios in both New Zealand and London. I’ve worked across a wide range of projects, from small service-based businesses to large organisations and international corporates.
This background gives me a practical understanding of branding, layout, typography, and production — and how documents are actually used in the real world.
I listen carefully, ask the right questions, and then design something better than you imagined: using colour, type, layout, and content that stand up to real-world testing.
Accessibility doesn’t need to be overwhelming or judgemental
Whether you’re a small business wanting to do the right thing, or an organisation addressing accessibility requirements, I meet you where you’re at. I explain things clearly, focus on practical improvements, and help you make informed decisions that suit your goals, audience, and budget.
When needed, I collaborate with other trusted professionals — including illustrators, copywriters, photographers, and accessibility auditors — to deliver projects smoothly and efficiently.
Working together
I work with clients across New Zealand and internationally. While my studio is based in Auckland, location is rarely a barrier — accessible document work travels well.
I’m here to create design that:
Includes more people
Reduces frustration
Strengthens trust and credibility
Helps your business or organisation thrive
If you’d like to talk about accessible documents and publications, remediation, or how accessibility fits into your wider communications, I’d love to hear from you.
I’m always happy to answer questions — no pressure, no judgement.
